Remembrance Sunday is 8 November 2026. Last year Windsor High Street, Park Street and Sheet Street shut from 10.15am, and Maidenhead's roads until 1pm.
Remembrance Sunday 2026 is Sunday 8 November. The Royal Borough says the day is held “on the nearest Sunday to the 11th November”, and in 2026 the 11th is a Wednesday. Its two civic services are at the Parish Church of St John the Baptist on Windsor High Street and the Borough Church of St Andrew and St Mary Magdalene in St Mary’s Close, Maidenhead (RBWM, civic services).
The 2026 running order and road closures have not been published yet. As of 29 September 2026 there is nothing for this year on the council’s pages or the Windsor parish church’s events list. Last year’s closure order was sealed on 28 October 2025, so expect this year’s in the last week of October. We will update this page when it appears.
Until then, last year’s order is the best guide to what shuts, because the parades follow the same routes each year.
What closed in 2025
The borough’s order for Sunday 9 November 2025, made under the Town Police Clauses Act 1847, closed these roads to traffic. Pedestrians, cyclists and the emergency services could still use them (RBWM Remembrance services and parades 2025 order).
| Where | Roads closed | 2025 times |
|---|---|---|
| Windsor town centre | High Street and Park Street, whole length; Sheet Street between Victoria Street and Park Street | At various times, 10.15am to 12.20pm |
| Windsor, Goswell Road | Goswell Road, whole length; Barry Avenue from the railway viaduct east to River Street | 10.40am to 11.15am |
| Maidenhead | St Ives Road, Bridge Avenue and St Mary’s Close, whole length; York Road between St Ives Road and Bridge Avenue; High Street between Queen Street and Crown Lane; Queen Street between Broadway and the High Street | At various times, 10.15am to 1pm |
| Cookham | B4447 High Street; the first stretch of School Lane, Cookham Moor and Berries Road | From 10.40am |
| Cookham Dean | Church Road between Bigfrith Lane and The Green; The Green; Hardings Green | 10.40am to 11.15am |
| Horton | Stanwell Road, Datchet Road and Horton Road near the village centre | 10.10am to 11.20am |
| Waltham St Lawrence | The Street and The Pound | 10.45am to 11.30am |
| Bray | Bray Road from Hibbert Road to the High Street; High Street to Old Mill Lane | 11.30am to 12 noon |
| Holyport | Holyport Street and Holyport Road, about 40 metres either side | 12 noon to 12.25pm |
Two of the printed times contain slips: the Windsor closure ends at “12.20am” and Cookham’s at “11.10pm”. Read them as 12.20pm and, most likely, 11.10am. The Goswell Road and Barry Avenue closure was taken out for 94 (Berkshire Yeomanry) Signal Squadron, the Army Reserve unit on Bolton Road, which is a separate parade from the civic one on the High Street.
Eton, Datchet, Old Windsor, Ascot and Sunningdale do not appear on the borough’s order. Services there are arranged locally, and we will add any that publish details.
Parking and getting there
In Windsor, the closed stretch is the spine of the town centre, so Victoria Street and River Street car parks are the awkward ones to reach mid-morning. Alexandra Gardens and Alma Road, on the river side, are away from the High Street closure but near the Goswell Road one. In Maidenhead, the closures wrap round the Town Hall and the High Street. Tariffs, and which council car parks are free on Sundays, are on our parking in Windsor and Maidenhead page, and the week’s other works are on our roadworks and travel page.
Armistice Day
Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November 2026, has a separate two-minute silence. The council lists its annual “2 Minute Silence” in November at the Town Hall, Maidenhead (RBWM, civic services). The 2026 time has not been published.
What we are still waiting on
- The 2026 road closure order, expected late October.
- Service and parade times for Windsor and Maidenhead, and who from the council will attend.
- Village services in Eton, Datchet, Old Windsor and Ascot.
